Re: Council Information Letter
Ice Rink Experimentation:
Grand Haven loaned its SWAP crew to us today to help with snow removal. A crew of eight guys will cost us about $60 for the two hours needed. Bernie and Rick continue to spend countless hours keeping it flooded.
Budget Process Begins:
Maribeth produced the forms and we are starting to meet to estimate this years actual expenditures. We will soon be determining whether any budget adjustments by fund will be necessary. The whole process is being moved up one month this year to better dovetail with the Police Department budget process contained in the Intergovernmental Agreement. Rather than have Council review in May; your review will be in April.
Extra Architectural Fee for Exterior Lighting at Village Hall:
A suggestion to use the new technology provided by LED lights to inexpensively and innovatively light up a portion of the exterior of Village Hall was made recently by Council member Fischer. I asked the architect to look into. They did so and think they can design an aesthetically appropriate way of accenting the cornice.
The cost to design is $950. This architectural services amendment will be on the next Council meeting agenda. Please call me if you would like to defer since they are starting to spend some time on it now.
Cost to Repair Window with Bullet Hole:
This damage is in the window of the EOC room. The cost to repair is $1,065. We are investigating whether any insurance coverage is available for such vandalism while under construction.
Mel Hall is Village Historian:
Our grateful thanks to Mel this week for making a contribution to the Village Hall history project in the lobby.
Lobby Interior Furnishings Committee:
This group met and we are fortunate to have some committed participation from Sandy Parker of the Historic Committee and Ethan Barnett, Curator of the Tri-Cities Museum. Together they formed a sub-committee that will be making recommendations. More to follow.
Chess:
Holmes School asked me to come back and teach second graders. I will be doing so 8 :00 AM to 8:30 AM for four Friday mornings in February.
Winter Institute for Michigan City Managers:
I will be attending this conference in Frankenmuth on Tuesday and Wednesday. I will be in Kalamazoo for a MDEQ presentation on new Brownfield funds on Thursday. Since I am in Kalamazoo late Wednesday night for class, I will be staying at the Red Roof Inn overnight.
