Re: Council Information Letter
Funds Needed for the Thursdays At the Point Concert Series: Alice Seaver has only been able to secure 25% of the necessary funding to date. She contacted me and asked for help.
If you are aware of benefactors in the community, let them or me know about this opportunity to get behind the concerts. They need roughly $2,500-$3,000 more.
Police Department Wins Grant Award: Roger reported that emergency operations equipment will be covered by a grant that was awarded yesterday at the County level. This equipment will include special emergency field operations equipment, binoculars, night vision and emergency notification radios for the Radio Club to use.
Ambulance Service Meeting: Grand Haven Township is coordinating a joint meeting of elected officials to review this potential change in the next several weeks. Bob Sullivan is trying to find out why the Village is not listed on the original agreement, whether we will get any of the distributed assets and whether we should be listed on some future agreement.
Clean-Up Day: May 4th is this year’s waste hauler clean up day.
Waste Hauler Meeting: I followed through with this annual meeting that had not occurred since 2002, unbeknownst to me. Their rates will be on the next agenda for your review and customary approval.
People Center Expands Its Services: Three additional apartments are being added via renovations at Christ Community’s house on Savidge Street. Since there have been problems here in the past, this is a positive change.
Wireless in Ottawa County: Wireless is not as good as you might think. Trees can block the signal from the satellites. Nevertheless, Ottawa County is proceeding. A fee might be requested to be shared by all might be coming for some consulting expenses. The extent is unknown as of yet. More to follow…
Bulk Purchase Comparisons: I am coordinating looking at salt and fuel prices for all the Tri-Cities communities. So far it looks everyone could benefit from our salt prices per ton and we could get gas cheaper from Merle Boes or even better if bid collectively. More to follow…
Joint Land Use Planning: Sylvia Ruscett is coordinating a joint North Bank land use planning session. She is single-handedly pulling this event together for early May. I am suggesting topics.
Wayfinding Signage Change: I temporarily put the mock-up of the signs out on M-104 and drove around the block. Several changes were needed as a result. A new mock-up was done and is much better. I am getting revised quotes from those that bid and will bring the mock-up and their revised prices to the March 21st meeting for discussion and potential bid award.
Lakeside Trail Gap Completion Grant Documents: I started to work on this procedure again. A notice of a public hearing for March 21st will shortly appear in the paper and I am writing to the neighbors with an invitation to attend.
If nothing else, we can apply for funds to do the block west of Christman.
Signage Enforcement: Jill Wendorf provided pictures of the current signs. We will be giving out some letters soon. Most, if not all, of these letters will go to overzealous parties with temporary types of signage.
Generator Did Not Sell Yet: We asked a $4,000 minimum bid and did not get it. We will readvertise with no minimum requested next time. If we do not get a decent price, we will look at connecting Barber School up to it.
E-Mail Was Down: If anyone complains about us not responding, we had a virus that needed two days of work. Next IT is covering some of the expense due to some improvements that could have been addressed earlier. Our appreciation goes to Kristie for working on it for the bulk of three days.
