 Re:             Council Information Letter

Ambulance Advisory Board’s Actions: They approved the request made by Ferrysburg and Spring Lake Township to have the Village at the table.  A resolution to this effect will be on the next Council meeting.  They also approved that any expenses would be shared on a per capita basis.  The next meeting is set for May 19, 2005.

Sign Moratorium:  One sign permit was requested this week.  I am asking all parties who ask for permits between now and the Council meeting to await the outcome of the Council discussion next week.  At the very least, the Design Manual and its intent can be explained.  At best, the sign designs may be modified to be more in keeping with what the Planning Commission is working on.

ACE Hardware Ribbon Cutting:  Hundreds of people visited the store today, including a gentleman that waited from 5:30 AM until the store opened.

Noise and Other Ordinance Violations Being Experienced:  With warmer weather, more of this activity is being reported and Police Department warnings issued.  Let me know if you hear about any neighborhood concerns.  We will proceed to issue tickets in one instance if problems re-occur this weekend.

Spring Lake Area Recreation Commission Suggests an Angled Crosswalk at Lakeside Beach:  This idea came up this week.  We will be thinking it through.  The idea is to increase safety further.

Tree Program Popular:  About a half dozen people have called already.

Mill Point Park Permit for Band shell:  The State is poised to issue the permit if the band shell is moved 15 feet more inland.  We are meeting there on Monday at 3 PM to discuss if interested.

Jim Whitwam’s Last Day:  Friday is his last day.  We are discussing with him what he might like in the way of a reception.

New Part-Time Officer Sworn In:  His name is Brad Post and the Department will be issuing a press release shortly.

Next Planning Commission Meeting: So far two rezoning requests are on the agenda:  Homes purchased by St. Mary’s and the home just west of the Kieft properties on Savidge.  Also on the agenda will be final approval of the West Savidge condo and restaurant project, called Lake Pointe Condominiums, and the Six Year Capital Plan.

Four Demolition Requests Received:  These requests relate to the homes mentioned above.

Spring Lake Township Planning Meeting Well Attended:  About 35 people discussed the future of the North Bank on Friday morning.  Bill and I attended.  Another meeting is being planned for June.

Fire Department Requests Floating Dock at End of Buchanan:  There has been no objection to this idea so far.  I suggested they put it in writing and come before the Council at the next meeting.

Spring Clean-Up Dates:  Brush Pick-up:    May 23rd.
