 Re:             Council Information Letter

Traffic Sight Distance Obstructions:  A number of service requests were received recently for sight distance obstruction removals on private

property – at Jackson and Exchange, Exchange and Lake and River and DeWitt.

All property owners were advised to conduct the necessary trimming.  We will follow up in a week to ten days as necessary.

Rite Aid Details:  The demolition contractor is following the plans.  It became clear this week that one of the three Village trees is to be moved for a storm sewer connection.  I called the engineer to see if the storm sewer could be re-routed.  More to follow…

East Village Final Landscaping:   The landscaper misread the plans and thought they only had to provide one-fifth of the required plantings.  This is now being corrected.  We will receive liquidated damages, or more trees instead, depending on the engineer’s discussions with the landscaper.

Meanwhile, the Tri-Cities Garden Club president is preparing plans for doing a fall planting in the new flowerpots.

Water Meter Question and East Village:  The property owner will assume cost of the entire sprinkling once the streetscape project is signed off on by the Village in a week or so.

Spring Lake Township Requests the Village to Sponsor a Disc Golf Hole at Rycenga Park:  John Nash requested whether we could kick in a contribution of $350 for one hole.  More to follow at the Work Session.

Receptionist/Cashier/Administrative Aide:  Over fifty applications were received.  Interviews will begin on Monday.

Peddlers Permit:  A second permit checked out and was approved today.  The permit is for educational magazines that have been sold in the Village in former years.  The individual is a college age Englishman whose references were good, as well was his company’s.  His name is Alistair Vince and the employer is Southwestern Company of Nashville, TN.  This approval is contingent on no complaints and no solicitation before 9 AM or after 5 PM.

Demolition Permits and Barrett’s Expansion:  Tom and I toured the area on Monday with Chris, the owner.  Not much was found and the Historic Commission was asked to come in on Monday to add their thoughts.

Maple Trees, Monarch Street Right-of-Way and Barrett’s Expansion:  Three mature trees were reportedly owned by the Barrett’s and were in line to be demolished.

A review of the aerial photo signified they were Village trees.  I requested a survey of the property on Wednesday.  Since no survey was available, Chris called in a survey crew and they staked out the lines.  It turns out that Monarch Street is not located in the center of the right of way.  The result is the trees are privately owned.  They were moved.

Bike Path Clean-up Along Spring Lake Township Border:  John Nash reports that some folks are dumping brush in there.  He is having it cleaned up along Lakeside Trail, just west of the Cemetery.
