Re: Council Information Letter
President Bush Visit Uneventful:
The Village of Spring Lake/City of Ferrysburg Police Department did a nice job of getting the motorcade through our area without incident. Thanks to Roger and his staff.
Speaking of the PD:
Curt Thuene is our Detective and School Liaison. He got a nice write up in the paper last week at a school event. His schedule includes being at the school on MWF from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM and on TR from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. This way he will cover lunch hours for the two Middle and Intermediate Schools and also be there to handle end of day business.
Dangerous Private Tree:
We recently received concerns about a tree on private property at the corner of River and Fruitport. John contacted the property owner and we will work toward doing the right thing. If it falls, it could take out the Village's pumping station.
Annual Tour:
A detailed program can be found elsewhere in the agenda. Meet at Village Hall at 5:30 PM. The public is invited to all the stops: Franklin/Parkhurst, George Donner Memorial dedication, Harbor Steel Redevelopment, Barber Street review and the Special meeting and Goal Setting at 7:30 PM at Village Hall.
John Bolthouse and Fred Peterson Personally Invited to George Donner Memorial Dedication:
Pass the word to any one else. It is scheduled for 6:00 PM on Monday, September 20th as part
of our tour. Let me know if anyone else should get a personal invitation, in addition to the family. (John declined a ride I offered saying he still drives a lot.)
Harley Event Back at the Holiday Inn:
This event is back. Chief DeYoung has a handle on it. It will be held on Saturday. We are glad to see good "shoulder season" business there.
Appreciation Received:
Offers Williams and VanDis recently were complimented by a local
attorney and doctor for the way they "acted professionally and made a bad, stressful
situation much less difficult".
The person's children were "very impressed with the officers and were
not scared by their presence. Whoever
handled the accident should be commended".
Thank you Mike and Adam.
Parallel Parking
on the North Side of Exchange from Cutler to School Begins a Trial Period: The signs were removed this week. Formal action will appear on a Council
agenda in October for a final decision.
MEDC Grant: The Chamber of Commerce is providing
expertise on the CDBG paperwork requirements for us. This grant period started with a formal notice to the property's
neighbors this week.
Additional
Agenda Item for Monday Night: In order to stay on track for the MEDC $600,000 grant, Council needs to
"designate a certifying officer". This
vote would best take place on Monday night as part of the short special
meeting. It can be the President of
Council or the Manager, at your discretion.
I will add this item to the agenda for
your consideration.
Chamber
Breakfast: The Holiday Inn is
hosting this event tomorrow and asked me to say a few words.
Council Invited
to Pig Roast: A group that fund raises
by builds homes and sells them invited the Council and staff this week to a pig
roast at their first sale at 15614 Grand Point Drive, off Mercury just outside
the limits of Grand Haven from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday, September 17th. Their next house will be in Spring Lake
Township. Debbie Reynolds is in charge
of the "Spread the Music Foundation".
