Re: Council Information Letter
MDOT Compliments:
Compliments
are coming in too and are being forwarded to MDOT who deserves the credit.
Joint Police Commission Meeting: Roger was credited with making a stronger department in a number
of ways. Fred was honored with a clock
for his years of service. Jim sat in
and was able to get oriented to the Police Commission. The crime rates are all down and will be on
a future Council meeting agenda.
Public Works Additional Storage Shed Done: Ty, Doug and the crew put a lot of sweat equity, but little cost,
into this project. It was well done and
a great use of space.
Harbor Transit Rate Increase: At their meeting this week, they decided to hold a
public hearing in January. They cannot
continue to eat the high fuel costs.
The last rate increase was 15 years ago. This will help keep the Village’s taxes down also.
Christmas Dinner Date: Mark
your calendars for Friday, December 9th. Mary will be doing formal invitations in the future.
General Fund Audit Results: Maribeth is done with the audit.
My hat is off to her. The
General fund ended the year just above the budgeted revenue and nineteen
thousand less than the budgeted expenditures for a $20,000 gain. Thank you to the team for their frugalness
and enabling us to remain in the black.
The auditors will provide a full report during the second meeting of
November.
Local Merchants Participating in Halloween Trick or
Treat Event: Village Hall will be
participating. Spring Lake Township
Hall might also.
Landscaping Behind Village Hall: The bare spots underneath the trees will be filled
in next week. This is part of the TIF
projects list.
South Intake Open: They
started flowing it again this week.
Slow, but sure. Let me know if
you notice any taste or odor changes.
Wireless Antennas:
Azulstar
is the successor company to Ottawa Wireless.
They are using a different type of antenna. You can see them on the power pole at the south end of Maple
Terrace median. They are planning the
same type of antenna at Savidge/Lake; Lake/Fall; on Holmes School; and at Williams
and River. They are rectangular in
shape.
Deadline for Council Applicants Next Week: October 26th is the deadline. We only have one half-hearted response to
date. Can you help spread the
word? We advertised it in the paper and
hate to keep spending advertising money with little to show for it. I will see if I can fit it on our sign
board.
Fire Department Disaster Exercise in the
Village: SLT Fire is going to run a
scenario involving a hazardous spill in a storm sewer next Thursday night. FYI.
***Upcoming Meetings***
Master Plan Kick-Off: Monday,
October 24 at Barber School at 7 PM.
Planning Commission Meeting: Next meeting is October 25,
2005 at 7:00 PM.
Village Leaf Collection: Village Crews will begin
collecting leaves the week of October 31st.
Ambulance Service RFP and Upcoming Meetings: So far, so good with NOCH assuming the
contract. Meeting dates of November 17
at 7 PM and November 22 at 7 PM are planned to finalize these understandings.
That is all for the
week. Call with questions: 842-1393, 844-2581 or 616-638-8910.
