As of the census of 2000, there were 2,514 people in 1,098 households and 667 families residing in the Village of Spring Lake. The average household size was 2.16 persons and the average family size was 2.84 persons. There were 1,248 total housing units; 1,098 occupied and 150 vacant. 25.3% of the families had children under the age of 18 living with them. Married couple families made up 50% of the families in the Village, while 7.6% of the families were a female householder with no husband in the home. 39.3% of the households in the Village were nonfamily households, primarily people living alone.
The median age of the population was 44 years. 20.7% of the population was under the age of 18 and 26.5% of the population was 65 or older. Of the total population, 1,149 or 45.7% were male and 1,365 or 54.3% were female. 98.1% of the Village population identified themselves as white. 1.3% of the population was Hispanic. There were also small amounts, less than 1%, of persons of African American, Native American and Asian descent.
The median income in the Village in 2000 was $37,889. The median income for married couples was $51,607. 12.8% of the households in the Village had a median income between $25,000 and $30,000 per year. 10.3% of the households had a median income between $60,000 and $75,000 while 10.2% of households had a median income below $10,000. The median value of a home in the Village was $106,000.
