Section 7.05 of the revised Spring Lake Village Charter provides for the election of a Village Clerk/Treasurer.


The Village Council elects the Clerk/Treasurer based upon a recommendation from the Village Manager.
The primary responsibility of the Treasurer is to maintain the Village’s financial records in accordance with the Village Charter, State law and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

The Clerk/Treasurer attends all Village Council meetings, prepares the minutes, posts any meeting notices that are necessary to carry on the business of the Village of Spring Lake.

The Village is responsible for holding an election every two years for the purpose of election a Village President and three members of the Council. All State and Federal elections are the responsibility of Spring Lake Township. With the computerization of voter records in the State of Michigan, the township maintains the voter files for the Village of Spring Lake.

The Clerk/Treasurer maintains the General Ledger, and is responsible for the investing of Village funds, balancing checking accounts monthly, and paying all of the accounts payables.

The Clerk/Treasurer prepares and disburses the payroll, and maintains all information regarding an employee, such as insurance, retirement and attendance.

The Clerk/Treasurer collects village taxes, both real and personal, and posts payments to property accounts, reconciles tax rolls and prepares the roll to be given to Ottawa County Treasurer for the Revolving Fund. On March 1 of each year all delinquent taxes are turned over to the Ottawa County Treasurer for payment. Tax bills are printed and mailed by the Ottawa County Property Description and Mapping.
