2010 Annual Report

In 1989, the Spring Lake and Ferrysburg Police Departments combined to form one department which was designed to provide high quality police services while controlling expenditures. The Spring Lake/Ferrysburg Police Department provides 24 hour police services to the Village of Spring Lake and the City of Ferrysburg and serves a total population of 5,456 residents.

The department is located within the Spring Lake Village Hall with a satellite office at the Ferrysburg City Hall. The department is part of the Ottawa County Central Dispatch 911 system. The police department is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is always at least one officer on duty and if there is a need to contact an officer, a call can be placed to 911 if an emergency or (616) 842-1640 if a non-emergency. There are also phones located in the lobby of the Spring Lake and Ferrysburg offices which have a direct line to Central Dispatch.

FAQs

What are the parking regulations?

Overnight Parking: No overnight parking is allowed on any street in the Village of Spring Lake or the City of Ferrysburg between December 1st and April 1st. This is to assist our Department of Public Works for snow removal. If there is no snow during this time, the parking restrictions are still in effect.

Violations: Violators of these rules will receive a written citation. The citations can be mailed or dropped off to the Village of Spring Lake/City of Ferrysburg Police Department. Fines and conditions are listed on the citation.
*If a fine is not paid it can be re-issued on a Uniform Traffic Citation, where failure to pay would result in the suspension of your driver’s license and a higher fine.

Where do I go to obtain a Purchase Permit for a hand gun?
If you are a resident of the Village of Spring Lake or City of Ferrysburg you need to come to the Police Department located at 102 W. Savidge Street. If you are a resident of Spring Lake Township you need to go to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department located at 12220 Fillmore Street, West Olive Michigan.

FOR CITY/VILLAGE RESIDENTS:
Come to the police department with a valid picture ID such as a driver's license. You will be asked to pass a firearm safety test. A criminal records check will also be conducted. Once the test and records check are completed, a permit will be issued and it MUST be used within 10 days or it is void. Once you have purchased your hand gun you MUST return the Agency Copy and MSP Copy of the Application and License to Purchase a Pistol form.  The safety inspection certificate allows you to own the gun. This is NOT a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

How do I obtain a Personal Protection Order?

These are obtained through the Ottawa County Circuit Court in the Grand Haven Court House.

How do I obtain a recreational fire permit?
Write a letter to the Police Chief explain what type of fire pit you would like.  He will then if approved send a Permit Letter along with the local ordnance as to what can and cannot be burned in the fire pit.

The Spring Lake Township Fire Department provides around-the-clock fire protection and first responder medical services for the Village residents. The Department is made up entirely of persons who serve the community as paid volunteer firemen. The Village contracts with Spring Lake Township for fire protection services and some Village residents, business owners and employees serve on the department. A portion of this annual contractual obligation is set aside by the Township to be used for equipment and vehicle replacement.
