Taxes
The Clerk/Treasurer, Maribeth Lawrence, collects village taxes, both real and personal, and posts payments to property accounts, reconciles tax rolls and prepares the tax roll to be given to the Ottawa County Treasurer for the Revolving Fund. On March 1 of each year all delinquent taxes are turned over to the Ottawa County Treasurer for payment. Tax bills are printed and mailed by the Ottawa County Property Description and Mapping Department. 2011 PROPERTY TAX PAYMENTS
The Village of Spring Lake 2011 property taxes are due September 14, 2011. After September 14, 2011, interest and penalty charges are added to your taxes. Taxes can be paid to the Village of Spring Lake Treasurer until March 1, 2012. For your convenience, a Village payment drop box is located in the alleyway at S. Jackson Street behind the Love, Inc. retail store and also at the Savidge Street entrance to the Village Hall. When paying by mail or drop box, and a receipt is desired, please include the entire tax bill along with a self-addressed stamped envelope. After March 1, 2012, please contact the Ottawa County Treasurer at 616-994-4501 for payment information.
Under legislation passed by the Michigan Legislature, certain qualified senior citizens, paraplegics, quadriplegics, eligible service personnel, veterans, widows and blind persons may make application with the Village Treasurer for the deferment of payment of the 2011 property taxes, until February 14, 2012 without penalty or interest. Those who meet these requirements are age 62 or older and whose 2009 household income did not exceed $40,000, and who wish to take advantage of the deferment, must make application with the Village Treasurer prior to September 15, 2011. Deferment applications may be obtained at the Village Hall offices at 102 W. Savidge Street, during regular office hours. If you have questions or need additional information, please call 616-842-1393 and ask to speak with the Village Treasurer.
Village of Spring Lake property owners also receive a summer tax bill for school and county taxes from Spring Lake Township. In December, Spring Lake Township also sends out a winter tax bill. This millage helps cover township services to Village residents such as fire protection and property assessment. Questions concerning the payment of these taxes should be directed to Jim Koster, Township Treasurer, at 616-842-1340 and payments mailed to his attention at 106 S. Buchanan Street, Spring Lake.
