Re: Council Information Letter

Northwest Ottawa County Municipalities to Meet: Tuesday next week, January 31st is the date. The subject is how to keep our waterways clean. John Nash and Spring Lake Township is hosting this meeting. The location is Spring Lake District Library at 5:30 PM.

Please let me know at ryan@springlakevillage.org if you are interested in attending.

Phase I of Residential Development Behind Ace to Start Next Week: The Developer is coming in to get a building permit and will begin site work next week – clearing trees and installing utilities.

Police Department Annual Report: This report is in your packet. The Joint Police Commission will review this report on Tuesday and articles may appear in the paper. Your detailed review is scheduled for February 6th. Make a note and bring it with you then.

Ice Rink Open as Long as Weather Cooperates: The ice is bumpy but is at least frozen. We will close it again if it gets too warm.

Wetlands Ordinance Gets Ready for February 6th Review: A map is done, thanks to Wally Obits, and the attorneys are putting the finishing touches on it.

Question of Establishing “Party Status” on South Lake Appeal: I am getting additional information on this option and will report on it at the next Council meeting.

Holmes School and Letter Requesting Input: This matter was discussed at the last Master Plan meeting. I sent a letter this week asking to be involved in any process to make changes.

Audit RFQ Out: Responses are due back on Tuesday, February 14th. I will be contacting the Committee shortly thereafter to get together.

Michigan Economy is Worse Than the 1980’s: I just came back from the Michigan Winter City Manager’s Institute and many communities that are more industrial than Spring Lake are hurting: Albion, Ypsilanti, Alma, Greenville, etc. Special millages for streets, police and recreation are in the offing to keep these services going. They made a comparison to 1980’s lowest days and concluded that matters are worse for municipal services now than they were then.

Request for Proposal for Public Works Garage Expansion: Interviews will be Monday afternoon at 3:00 PM. Jim and Bill will be helping John and I.

Police Department Makes Stops of Vehicles Going Through Red Lights at Savidge and Lake: A total of twelve tickets were issued in the last six months. The Chief asked the crew to make an even more intensive effort. The Police Annual Report signified that Savidge and Lake was the highest accident location in the Village last year. I appreciate the Department’s efforts on increasing safety and good driver habits.
