Acting Chief Steinhauer Reports on Successful Recovery of Stolen Property:
On New Year’s Eve at approximately 2:30 AM Officer Walski made a traffic stop on a vehicle in Ferrysburg. The vehicle turned out to have thousands of dollars worth of stolen merchandise in it. Grand Haven was advised and it was confirmed that the two suspects in the vehicle were related to home invasions earlier in Grand Haven. The inventory of stolen merchandise was two pages long. The stolen merchandise will probably be linked to other home invasions in other areas.

Grand Haven Public Safety called Joe and wanted to inform him of the great job that Officer Walski and Hill did. He stated that they were professional and very helpful. He stated that these crimes would have probably gone unsolved if it was not for their diligence. It started with Officer Turbett telling other Officer’s about the suspect having a suspended driver’s license. He informed other officers of the vehicle description, which led to the traffic stop on the vehicle. The officers recognized that they had more than a suspended driver and notified Grand Haven Public Safety. Grand Haven Public Safety ran with it and got confessions from the suspects. Other agencies will be questioning the suspects and will likely be solving other crimes. Acting Chief Steinhauer reports that this is a model of teamwork.

Spring Lake Township Agrees to Winsor McCay Historic Sign Site: This agreement was inked last week and is now back before the Michigan Historical Preservation Office for their final action on a requested grant.

Federal Disaster Aid Unlikely for Ice Jam Flood: The damage assessments are on-going, but it is thought that the total amount of damage will not be enough to justify a presidentially declared disaster area. In the meantime, we will be applying for insurance reimbursement of the wholesale repairs necessary.

Maribeth spent time on her vacation helping out with the public information and damage assessment process. Kathy assisted as well.

Amy Has Her Twins: They were born at 1:31 and 1:32 respectively on December 31, 2008. Addy and Joey. They both weighed in at between five pounds, two ounces and six pounds, twelve ounces. Amy is doing fine. We got the twins matching t-shirts that have the Village logo on them as a gift from the Village.

Official Court Action Regarding Tenant in Arrears at 209 South Park: A hearing is scheduled for Monday morning. Since the tenant already moved out, the point of the official hearing is to get a judgment that could result in wages being garnished so this debt can be paid. More to follow…
