Re: Council Information Letter
Busy Week for Police Department: The responding officers are to be credited for finding the “huffing” device that the driver of the van that hit Arby’s was trying to conceal. Mike Williams is the investigator that got the confession on the criminal sexual misconduct. We appreciate Curt coming in and assisting with the televised media.
Lakeside Trail Set for Bid on May 1st: MDOT will open bids on this date. Construction could hopefully begin in late May or early June. More to follow…
Storm Water Permit Approval: We received approval this week for our next Certificate of Coverage. Many communities who hired engineers were found incomplete and received notices needing more work. They also requested permission to have other communities contact us to see how we are doing it.
Attorney for Independent Bank Will Present Our Offer: I relayed the Council’s standing offer to buy the sliver of property east of the former Channel Store with funds accrued in the Tax Increment Financing fund. More to follow…
Leaf Pickup Flyer: We are still six weeks away from this program. Nevertheless, see the changes in your packet. We will be using the vacuum truck and no bags are necessary unless you live on Savidge.
Michigan Works Program: A former student works for them now. He found a clerical person to recommend. There is no cost to the Village. It is a 12 week program. The person will be working for Mary at the front counter and on the phones three days a week in the afternoon for up to 120 hours. Her name is Clare Hill. She lives on Lake Street and just graduated from Spring Lake Alternative Education.
Amy Comes Back: Amy will return and will be working on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons next week. We appreciate her return and are grateful that Mary successfully completed a full quarter of water bills on a cross-trained basis with pointers from Amy along the way.
Middleville, Michigan Is Looking Into Cityhood: They called Maribeth this week and would like to do a Mayor’s Exchange sometime. We called back and said we are booked with New Buffalo but offered to spend whatever time is necessary if they came up here to see what the Village has been doing.
