Work Session Discussion Items

Agenda Review

This is the opportunity to discuss any changes to the Agenda, which follows tonight, or to remove items from the Consent Agenda for discussion.

Review of a Request from Spring Lake Schools for Permission to Display Six Life Skills Banners on the Village's Ornamental Light Poles Along M-104

The Guidance Counselor at Jeffers School requested that the Village allow installation of banners on six ornamental light poles. These banners reflect school-wide themes this year.
A sample of one of the banners is attached.

The messages are: The message is Life Skills and specifically Tolerance; Kindness & Caring; Respect; Responsibility; Honesty; & Perseverance.

The alternatives are:

1. Do not permit these banners as it may set a precedent (at least for other not-for-profit organizations);

2. Allow them at the entrance of Spring Lake at Fruitport Road where the Village currently display banners; or

3. Allow them on the M-104 Bridge light poles where empty brackets now exist.

If the Council would like to proceed, I suggest that they be permitted for a three month trial period initially. I suggest that the applicant bear the out-of-pocket costs with in-kind assistance from the Village.

Review of a Request to Consider Possible Contracting with Spring Lake Township Regarding the Services of the Village Manager

This matter came up at the last Council meeting and was slated for discussion tonight.
